 • GE Water’s New ZeeWeed 1500 Pressurized UF Membrane Leads Lineup of Advanced Treatment Technologies at AWWA ACE ‘09

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – June 15, 2009 – GE Water is highlighting its latest advanced technologies for municipal water treatment and water reuse, including its recently expanded family of ZeeWeed ultrafiltration (UF) products, at ACE 09, the annual conference and exhibition of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) being held in San Diego June 14-18.

ZeeWeed is an advanced filtration technology that separates particles, bacteria and viruses from water or wastewater. Nearly 1,000 plants worldwide use this technology to produce superior quality drinking water and to meet or exceed stringent wastewater treatment and water reuse standards.

GE’s recently introduced pressurized UF membrane – ZeeWeed 1500 – will be making its first appearance at the annual conference. ZeeWeed 1500 is a cost-effective, skid-mounted solution that can be rapidly installed for water treatment, pretreatment for reverse osmosis and tertiary filtration. Available in custom designs for municipal plants as well as industrial applications, the new offering joins GE Water’s growing portfolio of products designed to tackle global water challenges.

“Many of our solutions are ecomagination-certified, reassuring municipalities that advanced technologies not only provide economic advantages to a community, but also environmental benefits,” said Steve Watzeck, general manager-engineered systems, GE Water. “By combining unique technologies across the portfolio, and continuing to develop advanced products, GE Water is able to solve some of the world’s toughest municipal water challenges.”

The ZeeWeed 1500 builds upon the proven performance of GE’s ecomagination-certified ZeeWeed technology and offers similar environmental benefits such as high water recovery, reduced plant footprint and reduced chemical consumption. Ecomagination is GE’s corporate-wide commitment to help customers address today’s environmental challenges, such as the need for abundant sources of clean water.

ZeeWeed UF technology provides high quality treated water even in variable source water conditions and is ideal for greenfield or retrofit plants of all sizes. “The addition of a pressurized membrane provides our customers with a wider choice of robust, cost-effective products to help achieve their treatment needs,” said Watzeck.
ZeeWeed technology is part of GE Water’s broad portfolio of advanced technologies for municipal water treatment. The various GE solutions being highlighted at ACE 09 address many municipal challenges, including:
• Compliance with increasingly stringent treatment regulations;
• Retrofitting aging or underperforming plants;
• Expanding existing plants where land availability is limited;
• Coping with declining water quality;
• Developing sustainable, new water supplies from brackish or seawater sources and previously unused surface water sources;
• Reducing the total cost of operation;
• Implementing progressive water reuse programs to help conserve potable water supplies.

In addition to ZeeWeed, other GE Water technologies being showcased at the AWWA conference include:
• Electrodialysis reversal (EDR) technology, which offers outstanding removal of TDS, up to 94% water recovery rate and operates with low chemical addition;
• A broad range of packaged and custom membrane solutions for municipalities, including reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, and ultrafiltration;
• Muni.Z depth cartridge filters, which offer up to twice the life of conventional depth filters; and
• ABMet biological treatment technology, capable of removing 100% nitrate and more than 99% selenium from drinking water.
