ION EXCHANGE AWARDED 1 MLD WASTE WATER RECYCLE CONTRACT BY MANGALORE CHEMICALS & FERTILIZERS
Ion Exchange (India) Ltd. has been awarded the prestigious contract for a 1 MLD (million litres per day) effluent recycle project by the UB Group’s Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd. (MCF), one of the largest fertilizer manufacturers in South India, with a turnover of around Rs.2400 crores.

Mangalore receives a fairly large amount of rain every year and the MCF site is also very close to the Gurpur river bank. However, due to tremendous urbanization during the last few years, like most industries in the area, MCF faces a water crisis during summer, which is likely to only intensify in the coming years.

MCF therefore decided to implement several measures to conserve water including the treatment and reuse of waste water generated in their factory. The contract to treat the waste water generated from various sources, as detailed below, was awarded to Ion Exchange (India) Ltd.

Thus, MCF will generate more than 1 MLD or 1000 m3/d of treated water from the effluent recycle project which will produce treated water of quality even better than fresh water. As MCF is currently buying fresh water from the municipality at Rs.30/cu.m, the plant is expected to save over Rs.60 lakhs a year on water bills while at the same time conserving over 1 MLD of fresh water per day.
